I will be busy tomorrow, so here's the weekly numbers a day early. This has been, hands down, the best week of the pandemic so far. The reopening is going well, and so far does not seem to be stopping the excellent progress we're making.

The seven-day rolling average number of deaths stands at 437, down from 504 the week before. The daily number of hospitalizations is averaging 3,122, down from 3,473. The daily number of cases is at about 21,600, down from about 27,800.

The one blot in all this excellent news is that the B.1.617.2 variant, one of the Indian variants, continues to spread further in the US, making up about 5% of known cases at this point. Unless it's rate of spread changes, it should make up the majority of US cases by around some time in July. After that, time will tell what its affect is on the overall numbers, but it is known by this point that it generally doesn't affect vaccinated people.

In addition to the recent loosening of restrictions on masks, Facebook has also loosened up the ban on people expressing the opinion that this thing was cooked up in a lab in China. Daily life is getting freer by the week.

So, all around, things are like they were last week, but more so: the pandemic keeps receding, the Indian variant keeps spreading, the emergency restrictions keep fading.

Covid news is getting less and less interesting, and that's a good thing.
