Today, the United States reported 28,628 cases of the novel coronavirus, down from 31,406 a week ago (Covid Tracking Project). Today's number is the lowest number in almost three months, so that's good. The one asterisk beside the day is that this is Labor Day, and holiday weekend reports can be a little weird. But the hospitalizations keep decreases (down from 35k to 32k over the past week), so that probably reflects an actual drop in how many people are getting the virus.

We reported 224 deaths today, down from 358 a week ago. Again, we'll need about a week to see how the Labor Day weekend might be throwing statistics off, but if you smooth out the daily ups and downs by following the seven-day rolling average, deaths have been steadily dropping for a few weeks now.

So it's all good news today. The usual graphs are attached.
