Today, the United States reported 48,799 new cases of the novel coronavirus, up from 35,445 a week ago (Covid Tracking Project). If the follow the rolling average, it's up, up and away, with an increase of 17% over the last week. However, we tested over 6 million people in the last seven days, but less than 5 million in the seven days before -- an increase of 22%. So hopefully it's the extra testing making us better at finding cases rather than more actual cases.

If we look at hospitalizations, which are a bit more resistant to changes in things like testing, we've got 29,448 reported current hospitalizations with covid, down from 30,327 a week ago.

We reported 821 deaths today, down from 1031 a week ago. After the weird dip around Labor Day, it looks like deaths are back to moving downward again like before, so that's good.

Time will tell. The usual graphs are attached.
