Today, the United States reported 46,546 cases of the novel coronavirus, a hair down from the 46,821 a week ago (Covid Tracking Project). The graph of the rolling seven-day average has been fairly flat the last several days. We can illustrate it by looking at that average over the past two weeks. In the week spanning August 15 through 21, that average dropped from about 53k to about 45k -- dropping by about a thousand per day. Over the latest week, August 22 through 28, the average has stayed within one thousand of 42,500 all week.
So, as far as reported cases go, we're in another one of those relatively flat periods where we'll have to wait and see whether the cases start going up again, or down again.
We reported 1023 deaths today, down from 1123 a week ago, and on the deaths front we are continuing to see good news. Here's the seven-day rolling average over the past twelve days: 1068, 1065, 1046, 1035, 1029, 1015, 987, 981, 972, 965, 942, 942, 927.
