Today, the United States reported 47,402 cases of the novel coronavirus, up from 36,490 a week ago (Covid Tracking Project).

We reported 242 new deaths, down from 330 a week ago.

So cases still seem to be going up, while deaths still seem to be going down. On the other hand, Mondays tend to have unusually low reports -- they're affected by the weekend -- and this was a holiday weekend. So we should have a clearer picture of whether the cases-up, deaths-down pattern is still holding in a few days.
