Today the United States reported 71,229 cases of the novel coronavirus, up from 58,836 a week ago (Covid Tracking Project). Today's total is the highest ever reported.
We reported 977 deaths today, up from 867 a week ago. The last time we reported deaths that high was six weeks ago, back when deaths were falling. (I'm not counting that weird day three weeks ago when New Jersey back-reported a ton of suspected deaths.)
All in all, a bad stats day. The usual graphs are attached.
