Today, the United States reported 58,357 new cases of the novel coronavirus, up from 47,402 a week ago. Over the last seven days we've had 421,736 new diagnoses, which is the highest we've seen in a seven-day period yet.
Today we reported 327 deaths, up from 242 a week ago. By that week-to-week measure, we're now at seven days in a row of rising deaths. We've averaged 727 deaths reported per day over the past week, up from 480 per day the week before that.
I talked with a guy today who had his kidney replacement rescheduled a couple months ago due to the first round of Covid, and is now scheduled for September. He's worried that they're going to postpone it again and he'll wind up dead.
