Today, the US reported 43,471 new cases of the novel coronavirus, up from 31,930 a week ago. The last seven days have seen 252,966 new cases, the highest number in any seven-day period yet.
We reported 506 deaths today, down from 630 deaths a week ago.
Cases keep going up, and deaths keep going down. At least one of those two trends has to change, and pretty soon.
