The United States reported 630 covid-linked deaths today, down from 695 a week ago (Covid Tracking Project). The seven-day rolling average has now dropped to 600, down from 757. Things continue to be good on the deaths front.

The rising number of cases, on the other hand, is getting fairly alarming. Three days ago I said that there wasn't a spike visible in the graphs so far, at least not for the country as a whole. Now we've got a spike, a steep and rapid spike. Here's the number of cases each of the last six days:

18,521 June 15
23,498 June 16
23,885 June 17
26,956 June 18
31,777 June 19
32,325 June 20

I also said I'd be officially bothered if the seven-day rolling average positive test rate went up to 5%, and as of today it has.
