Today, the US reported 650 deaths linked to the novel coronavirus, down from 751 a week ago (Covid Tracking Project). The seven-day rolling average of deaths is now down to 610, the lowest yet, and down from 765 a week ago. That's good.

But the number of new daily cases has been on a pretty grim trajectory. The last five days, have had about 19 thousand, 23 thousand, 27 thousand, and 32 thousand cases, in that order.

That's pretty bad. Not necessarily "run out and buy toilet paper" bad. But if you're low on toilet paper, maybe you should get some.

When it comes to the number of new infections, today had the largest number since May 1st, that is, about the time the country was starting to reopen.
