NRSV

24 July 2022

The NRSV, or New Revised Standard Version of the Bible, could probably be fairly called the leading ecumenical or scholarly translation of the Christian Bible. It enjoys a position in academia second to no other translation.

The 'classic' NRSV appeared 1989, while in 2021 an NRSVue, NRSV "Updated Edition", appeared, a product of the same National Council of Churches which produced the NRSV. I am not sure yet how it has been received in the scholarly world, and whether it will -- as intended -- supersede the NRSV of 1989.

The NRSV is a revision of the RSV, which went through several stages of revision and translation from the 1940's to the 1970's.
