3. terrified. Hebrew nibhalu. Following the WEB; ASV reads “troubled”. Based on the other uses of the verb in the Hebrew Bible, it would seem that “terrified” is a better choices (see the verses cited in BDB, entry for BHL, niphʿal, 1.)
5. distressed. ASV, WEB “grieved”, but the verb in question is not speaking of grief – at least not in today’s meaning of the term, but rather distress.
10. Goshen. Delineating the precise borders of what the Hebrew Bible calls “Goshen” is difficult, but it would appear that some area is meant along the east side of the Nile Delta region (see William A Ward, “Goshen”, in ABD).
13. power. Hebrew kabod. ASV, WEB “glory”. But when a person is described as having kabod, it is not so much that they have “glory”, whatever exactly that might mean, but that they are in a powerful, wealthy, and/or important social position.
18. the best. Hebrew ṭob. ASV, WEB “good”, but Hebrew does not have separate words for good, better, and best in the way that English does, so it is reasonable to read “best” here.
19. take yourselves. Hebrew qᵉḥu-lakem, which ASV, reasonably but in now-obsolete English, reads “take you”. The WEB, perhaps mistaking “take you” for “take ye”, omits the indirect object altogether.
20. best. As in verse 18.
23. for the way. Hebrew ladderek. WEB, ASV read “by the way”.
24. quarrel. Hebrew RGZ, which may also refer to trembling in terror. Many translations here read “quarrel” or “argue”, while NKJV has “become troubled”, NET “be overcome with fear”. NHEB changes WEB’s “quarrel” to “be fearful”.
26. was numb. WEB, ASV “fainted”; but see BDB, entry for PWG.
