William Tyndale was an important figure in early English Protestantism. His major legacy was an early translation of the Bible into English. Although he was killed on grounds of heresy, his translation provided the basis of the Matthew Bible, which came out a year after his death. Other editions of the English Bible continued to use much of his wording, including the KJV, by which Tyndale came to be very influential, at least as far as the exact wording of Scripture goes.
