Symmachus was a translator of the Hebrew Bible into Greek, who did his work in the late second century AD. He is of interest historically for several reasons, but for the purposes of this website the most noteworthy thing about Symmachus is that parts of his work survive, and they provide a window into manuscripts of the Hebrew Bible which existed then but are no longer around.
