(BA) Sephardi Hebrew
...

24 July 2022 - 11 September 2022

Sephardi Hebrew refers to the reading tradition of Hebrew established in Spain and related areas, and which has had the most influence on the vowels of Modern Israeli Hebrew. An example of a Sephardi reading of the Hebrew Bible can be found online, as read by Abraham Shmuelof. It can be found at the Mechon Mamre website here.

The term Sephardi comes from the biblical Sepharad, found in Obadiah 1:20, which refers to one of the places where exiles from Jerusalem ended up. Identifying the actual Sepharad referred to by Obadiah is difficult, but Jewish tradition has given that name to Spain, and as a consequence Sephardi is now used for the Jewish diaspora in Spain and the religious culture and communities associated with it.
