Orthodox Judaism refers to those strands of Judaism which attempt to follow the normative practices of Judaism as it emerged from the middle ages. It is contrasted with Reform Judaism and Conservative Judaism, which have to greater degrees modernized their practice. Orthodox Judaism as it exists today does not refer to any single organization, but to a variety of groups which have continued to adhere to traditional practices such as dietary and purity laws, while rejecting a variety of modern trends.
It is not to be confused with Eastern Orthodoxy, which refers to a branch of Christianity.
