The New American Bible was the official English Bible of the Catholic Church in the United States from 1970 to 2011, following the Confraternity Bible and implementing the new Catholic practice of making translations from the original languages rather than the Vulgate. In this way it continues, rather than totally replacing, the work of the Confraternity Bible.

It was followed in 2011 by the New American Bible Revised Edition, although the liturgy still uses the NAB.
