(BA) Kingdom of Judah
...

22 July 2022

The Kingdom of Judah refers to the kingdom ruled by a line of kings who saw themselves as successors of David, traditionally regarded as the founder of their dynasty. While modern scholarship tends to regard David as a genuine historical figure, with a few hold-outs, there is considerably more doubt as to how much of the material about Saul and David is of historical value. The books of Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles record the Hebrew Bible's memory of the Kingdom of Judah and its relations with its northern neighbor, Israel. The biblical account of the Kingdom of Judah comes to an abrupt end with the destruction of Solomon's Temple and the Babylonian exile.
