The Jewish Publication Society translation of 1917 is a translation of the Masoretic Text into English, and tends to read very close to the ASV. This translation is very well-done.
It should not be confused with the NJPS, of 1985, which is also very good, but much newer and which does not attempt to stick closely to the 1917 wording.
