Hataf segol is a compound vowel-sign in Hebrew which consists of a segol and a shva written next to each other under a single letter. The intention, if I understand it correctly, is a vowel like segol (roughly the e in bet) but pronounced a bit more quickly, though not as quickly as a shva. In modern Hebrew speech it is not distinguished from the ordinary segol.
