Wilhelm Gesenius was an important figure in the history of Hebrew studies. He is best known for his Grammar and his Lexicon of Hebrew. Both still have enduring value, but neither is final -- a lot has happened in Hebrew scholarship since his day. In particular, in this Lexicon, realize that often what he records is simply an (albeit impressively educated) guess at the meaning of a particular Hebrew word.
