These are the generations of the sky and the land when they were created.

On the day Yahweh God created land and sky--5 and no shrub of the field was yet on the land, and no herb of the field had yet sprouted, because Yahweh God had not made rain upon the land, and there was no human to work the ground, 6 and flowing water would go up from the land, and water the whole surface of the ground--7 Yahweh God formed the human from the dust of the ground, and breathed in his nostrils the breath of life; and the human became a living being.

And Yahweh God planted a garden in Eden, eastward, and there he put the human he had formed. 9 And Yahweh God made to grow from the ground every tree pleasant to sight and good for food. And the tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

And a river went out from Eden to water the garden, and from there it separated into four parts. 11 The name of the first is Pishon, which encircles the whole land of the Havilah, where there is gold. 12 And the gold of that land is good; bdolah and shoham stone are there. 13 And the name of the second river is Gihon, which encircles the whole land of Kush. 14 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel, which goes east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

And Yahweh God took the human, and set him in the garden of Eden to work and watch over it. 16 And Yahweh God commanded the human, saying, Of every tree of the garden you are free to eat, 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you must not eat of it, because on the day you eat of it you will surely die.

And Yahweh God said, It is not good for the human to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him. 19 And Yahweh God formed from the ground every wild animal, and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the human to see what he would call it. And whatever the human called it, a living being, that was its name. 20 And the human gave names to all livestock, and to the birds of the sky, and to all the wild animals. But for Adam no helper was found suitable for him.

And Yahweh God caused a deep sleep to fall on the human, and he slept. And he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 And Yahweh God built the rib which he had taken from the human into a woman, and brought her to the human.

And the human said, This is now bone from my bones, and flesh from my flesh. This will be called woman, because this was taken from a man.

This is why a man leaves his father and his mother, and clings to his wife, and they become one flesh.

And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
