Now in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of goyim; 2 they made war with Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar). 3 All these joined as allies in the Siddim Valley, which is the Salt Sea.

4 Twelve years they had served Chedorlaomer, and the thirteenth year they rebelled. 5 And in the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer came, and the kings who were with him, and struck Rephaim in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shaveh Kiriathaim, 6 and the Horite[s] in their Mount Seir, as far as El Paran which is by the wilderness.

7 And they turned back and came to Ein Mishpat, which is Kadesh, and they struck all the territory of the Amalekite[s], and also the Amorites who dwelt in Hazazon Tamar.

8 And the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar, arrayed themselves for battle with them in the Siddim Valley: 9 with Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of goyim, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar: four kings against the five. 10 And the Siddim Valley was filled with bitumin pits, and the king of Sodom and Gomorrah fled and fell there, and the survivors fled to the hills. 11 And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food-stores, and went. 12 And they took Lot and his property, Abram's brother's son, and went. And he was living in Sodom.

13 And someone who escaped went and told Abram the Hebrew, as he was dwelling at the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, the brother of Eshkol and the brother of Aner, who were bound by covenant to Abram. 14 When Abram heard that his brother was captured, he lead out his trained men, [servants] born into his household, three hundred eighteen, and pursued as far as Dan. 15 And he divided himself against them by night, he and his servants, and struck them and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus. 16 And he retrieved all the property, and he also retrieved his brother Lot and his property, as well as the women and the people.

17 And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after he returned from the smiting of Chedorlaomer and of the kings who were with him, at the Shaveh Valley, which is the King's Valley. 18 And Melchizedek, king of Shalem, brought out bread and wine. Now he was priest of El Elyon.

19 And he blessed him, and said,

Blessed be Abram of El Elyon creator of sky and land, 20 and blessed be El Elyon, who has delivered your enemies into your hand.

And he gave him a tenth of everything.

21 And the king of Sodom said to Abram, Give me the persons, and take the property for yourself.

22 And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lifted up my hand to Yahweh, El Elyon, creator of sky and land, 23 that not even a thread nor a shoe-lace will I take of anything yours, that you might not say, I made Abram rich; 24 except only what the lads have eaten, and the share of the men who went with me: Aner, Eshkol, and Mamre. They may take their share.
