1 And Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all he had, and Lot with him, toward the Negev. 2 And Abram was very wealthy: in livestock, in silver, and in gold.
3 And he moved his camp along from the Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent was at first between Bethel and the Ai, 4 to the site of the altar which he had made before. And there Abram called upon the name of Yahweh.
5 Likewise, Lot, who was traveling with Abram, had herds and cattle and tents. 6 And the land was unable to support them living together, because their possessions were so great they could not live together. 7 And there was contention between Abram's herdsmen and Lot's herdsmen. And the Canaanite and the Perizzite were then in the land. 8 And Abram said to Lot, Please, let there not be contention between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, because we are close relatives. 9 Is not all the land before you? Please, separate from me. If you go left, I will go right; and if right, I will go left. 10 And Lot lifted his eyes, and saw all the kikkar of the Jordan, when it was all well-watered before Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of Yahweh, like the land of Egypt, as you go to Zoar. 11 And Lot chose for himself the whole kikkar of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward, and they separated each from his brother.
12 Abram stayed in the land of Canaan, and Lot stayed among the towns of the kikkar, and pitched his tent as far as Sodom. 13 And the men of Sodom were wicked, and sinners against Yahweh greatly. 14 And Yahweh said to Abram after Lot was separated from him, Lift up your eyes, and look from the place where you are, north, and south, and east, and west. 15 For all the land that you see I will give to you and to your seed forever. 16 And I will make your seed as the dust of the earth, such that if a man could count the dust of the earth, so also could he count your seed. 17 Rise, walk about the land through its length and breadth, for I will give it to you. 18 And Abram moved his tent, and went, and stayed at Elonei Mamre, which was at Hebron, and built there an altar to Yahweh.
