Now all the earth was united in language and vocabulary. 2 And as they journeyed eastward, they came upon a valley in the land of Shinar, and settled there. 3 And they said each to his companion, Come, let us bake bricks, and burn them well. And they had bricks for stone, and tar for mortar.
And they said, Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower, with its top in the sky, and we will make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered across the face of the whole earth.
And Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower which the human beings had built.
And Yahweh said, Look, they are all one people with one language. If this is what they are beginning to do, then nothing will be withheld from them of all that they decide to do. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language there, so that one cannot understand the speech of his companion.
And Yahweh dispersed them from there across the face of the whole earth, and they stopped building the city. 9 Therefore its name is called Babel, because there Yahweh confused the language of all the earth, and from there Yahweh dispersed them across the face of the whole earth.

The name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and father of Iscah. 30 And Sarai was barren; she had no children. 31 And Terah took Abram his son and Lot son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, the wife of Abram his son, and went out with them from Ur Kasdim to go to the land of Canaan.
