The Contemporary English Version is a translation, often moving deep into paraphrase, of the Bible into a very readable form of English. It may be suitable for readers without a high level of literacy, but I don't think it has much use for people who are looking for a close translation.
It was produced by the American Bible Society, which also produced the Good News Bible.
